FLY COACHHIGHLIGHTS OF GREECE

This 14 nights/15 days fly-coach trip gives you the opportunity to see various sights of great archaeological value, traveling from south to north. We make our début in Thessalonica, co-capital of Greece, we’ll see the great tomb of Vergina where the father of Alexander the Great lies. The trip ends in Athens, with its imposing Acropolis.

DAY TO DAY

Day 1, Chalkidiki
We fly to Thessalonica, with a stop in Athens. We overnight in the coast of Chalkidiki for 2 nights.

Day 2, Chalkidiki
Today we will visit Thessalonica, the Byzantine museum, the “Lefkos Pyrgos” (White tower), the St. Dimitrios square and other worthwhile monuments.

Day 3, Kalambaka
We depart in south direction. We visit Vegrina, where the Star of Vergina was discovered, and the renovated museum. We continue southwards, until we reach Kalambaka where we spend the night.

Day 4, Metsovo
In the morning we visit “Meteora”, monasteries built on the cliffs of high and steep mountains, which is actually what saved them during the 400 years of Turkish occupation. Afterwards, we go via the Katara passage to the traditional village of Metsovo, for 1 overnight.

Day 5, Lefkas
Driving in west direction, we will visit the town of Ioannina and the small island in the middle of its lake. After that, via a bridge, we make the crossing to the island of Lefkada, where we stay for 2 nights.

Day 6, Lefkas
Today we take one day off, to enjoy the wonderful surroundings of this pearl of the Ionian Sea. We have the chance to make a mini-cruise around the island, during which we will also visit the island of Onasis, called “Skorpios”.

Day 7, Delphi
Back at the mainland, we make a short visit to the small town of Nafpaktos, followed by a visit to Delphi, where we will spend the next 2 nights.

Day 8, Delphi
Today we visit the sacred temple of Apollo, where, in the ancients times, Greek kings and warlords went to seek advise, even about going into war or not.

Day 9, Olympia
Via the new bridge of Rion – Antirrion, we reach the Peloponessus. By the funicular train we go to Kalavrita, at about 800m altitude. We continue our journey towards Olympia, where we overnight.

Day 10, Pylos
In the morning we visit the ancient stadium, where the first Olympic games of the ancient times took place, when people still fought only for honor and glory, with only reward a crown of olive tree branches, and the archaeological museum of Olympia. In the afternoon we go to Pylos.

Day 11, Tolon
We begin our day, by visiting Mistras, where Byzantine churches are to be found. Via Arcadia’s enchanting landscapes we reach Argolis. We will spend the next 3 nights in Tolon, a small village on the coast.

Day 12, Tolon
We visit the enormous theater of Epidaurus (with a capacity of 14.000 people!) with its perfect acoustics. We lunch in Nafplion, Greece’s first capital, after the end of the Turkish occupation. Afterwards we visit Mycenae, the Lion Gate (of which rumors had it in ancient time, that it was built by the Cyclopes, giant one-eyed men).

Day 13, Tolon
Today we have a free day to take a swim in Tolon’s great beach, visit the small island or visit Nafplion, or go on a one day cruise to Hydra and Spetses.

Day 14, Athens
Via the Corinth Canal, we go to Athens, where we shall visit the impressing Acropolis, the Parthenon Temple, the Ancient Agora and the Plaka. We‘ll spend our last night in the center of Athens.

Day 15
Transfer to Athens International Airport for our flight back home.
